THE Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) spearheads the 34th National Statistics Month (NSM) Opening Ceremony in the region held on October 10, 2023, in City of Calamba, Laguna.
The theme for this year’s NSM is “Accelerating Progress: Promoting Data and Statistics for Healthy Philippines” which emphasizes the importance of data and statistics in enhancing health outcomes and accelerating the nation’s socioeconomic development with the use of quality health and health-related statistics.
Presentations during the NSM Opening centered on the theme with a topic on Mental Health and Statistics presented by Geneva C. Calanog, Outcome Manager, Mental Health Program of Department of Health (DOH) Calabarzon. Nurse Calanog presented some statistics on Mental Health for the region and the need for facilities and personnel to address the increasing cases of individuals who experienced depression among other mental disorders.
She also emphasized the need for an efficient and effective information system to have reliable data as basis for their programs. With the Regional Statistical System (RSS), the region can implement an effective statistical development program to address the need for data on mental health.
Mr. Ding Martin Bundalian, Licensing Officer III of DOH CALABARZON focused his discussion on hospital statistics towards a progressive health system. He enumerated the different data/statistics that can be generated using the DOH system that helps monitor a hospitals operation to improve their facilities and cater to more clients.
They also consolidate the data that they use in the development of their health-related programs and projects. Lastly, Ms. Julliene Louise C. Cuartero, Project Development Officer of the National Nutrition Council-CALABARZON presented the Regional Nutrition Situation and Local Nutrition Services.
Based on the data that she presented Quezon province had the highest incidence of stunting and wasting in the region, that is why they have specific programs to address their concerns on nutrition.
The event also highlights the awarding ceremony of the winners of the 34th NSM Infographics Making contest for the members of the Regional Statistics Committee (RSC), Most Responsive Establishments, and 33rd NSM Awardees. Ms. Regine Ann F. Dinayco of the Department of Agriculture, Ms. Laarni F. Tolentino of the Department of Information and Communications Technology, and Ms. Revy Ann Grace Z. Jolongbayan of the National Economic and Development Authority were declared as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd placer, respectively for the 34th NSM Infographics Making Contest.
The following establishments were given plaque of recognition as Most Responsive Establishments in acknowledgment of their commitment and support to various PSA establishment surveys: Terban Marine Corp., Pilipinas Kyohritsu, Inc., Ibiden Philippines Inc., Castem Philippines Corp., Taiyo Plastic Corp Of The Phils., Almazora Motors Corp., Fujifilm Optics Philippines, Inc., Telstar Manufacturing Corporation, Sacred Heart College Of Lucena City Inc., Raquel Pawnshop Inc., Cotta Builders Construction & Development Corp., Panasonic Mfg Phils., Inc., Gt Istruktura Corp., and Jennys Garments Inc.
Moreover, PSA IV-A expressed sincerest gratitude to different member agencies/offices of the Regional Statistics Committee.
Regional Director Charito C. Armonia of PSA Region IV-A in her message, said that “We (RSS) look forward in working together as we continue to strive in providing relevant and reliable statistics that can help in the formulation of policies, strategies, and decision making of the government towards our goal of a healthier Philippines”,
