SOME 500 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) were transferred from the New Bilibid Prison (NBP) in Muntinlupa City to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Puerto Princesa City to alleviate overcrowding in penal colonies.
Local agencies, including the Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO), City Mobile Force Company, PPC Port Police, PPC Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), City Traffic Management Office (CTMO), PNP Highway Patrol Group, City Anti-Crime Task Force, Kilos Agad Action Center (KAAC), 3rd Marine Brigade, and Second Maritime Special Operations Unit helped facilitate the arrival and transportation of the inmates to Iwahig.
Proper procedures such as PDL accounting and inspection were conducted for the 447 male and 50 female inmates upon their arrival at their prison camps.
The IPPF assured that these PDLs will be securely housed and provided with quality reformation programs.
The transfer of PDLs poses no threat to the surrounding communities, said the IPPF.
Meanwhile, the IPPF has recently established its women’s correctional facility — the Correctional Institution for Women Sta. Lucia, Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (CIW-Sta. Lucia, IPPF).
Formerly referred to as the Sta. Lucia Sub-Colony of IPPF, the facility has been revitalized and renamed with the purpose of securely housing and rehabilitating women Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL).
To alleviate overcrowding at the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, some female inmates will be transferred to CIW-Sta. Lucia, IPPF.
On June 28, some 50 women PDLs were relocated to CIW-Sta. Lucia, IPPF.
