A THREE-MONTH old baby and eight others on Saturday night were killed when a wayward van plowed into a house, a tricycle and bystanders in Lal-lo, Cagayan.
Lal-lo police chief Maj. Jefferson Mukay identified the fatalities as Clarita Maganay, Aladin, Duarte, Eric, Charie, and 10-year-old Jeric, all surnamed Oñate; and May-Ann, Rosita, and 3-month old Elisa, all surnamed Martinez.
The nine died on the spot.
An investigation showed the van driven by Dan Vincent Domingo, a 42-year-old member of the Philippine Army in Tabuk City, Kalinga, miscalculated the sharp curve of the road and hit a house in Bgy. San Lorenzo in Lal-lo around 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Domingo and his passenger, whose name is being verified, were also injured. They were brought to the Matilde Olivas District Hospital for treatment.
The van was on its way to Luna, Apayao when the incident happened. An investigation showed the van encroached the other lane in the highway and struck the house of Renato Dolores and the garage of Ashley Sajania.
The van then plowed a parked tricycle and the victims sitting in the area. Witnesses said the victims were caught unaware by the speeding van and failed to run for their safety.
Charges for multiple homicide and damage to property will be filed against the van driver, police said.
