PRESIDENT Ferdinand Marcos Jr has recognized Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) athletes during the recently concluded 19th Asian Games.
CG Seawoman Second Class (SW2) Elreen Ann Ando (Bronze Medalist – Weightlifting) of the Coast Guard Special Service Office (CGSSO) was among the Filipino athletes who personally received incentives during the “Gabi ng Parangal at Pasasalamat para sa Bayaning Atletang Pilipino” organized by the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).
However, CG Seaman First Class (SN1) Mark Joseph Gonzales (Bronze Medalist – Sepak Takraw) of CGSSO could not attend the commemorative ceremony.
In his speech, President Marcos acknowledged the sacrifices of the athletes, coaches, and national sports associations in realizing the nation’s dream of succeeding at the 19th Asian Games.
He also discussed the plans for developing Philippine sports, including renovating national sports facilities, implementing a stronger medical response for athletes, and forming a focused education in sports at the grassroots level.
“It is my hope that the individual victories we are honoring now will inspire our collective vision and pursuits for the future. Ang sarap-sarap isigaw ang proud to be Pinoy,” the Chief Executive expressed during the event.
