MPT South Corporation, the concessionaire of CAVITEX and CALAX, in partnership with Maynilad Water Services, Inc., has provided half a million pesos worth of rice to aid Cavite’s local fisherfolk communities. These communities have been severely impacted by the recent MT Terannova oil spill and the destruction caused by Typhoon Carina.
The relief was handed over to former Governor Jonvic Remulla, benefitting Cavite’s coastal areas, including Cavite City, Bacoor City, and the municipalities of Noveleta, Rosario, Kawit, Tanza, Naic, Maragondon, and Ternate.
The oil spill, which released 1.4 million liters of industrial fuel into the waters, has greatly affected the coastal ecosystem and disrupted the livelihoods of the fisherfolk. This disaster coincided with Typhoon Carina, adding to the challenges faced by these communities.
MPT South President and General Manager Raul L. Ignacio emphasized the vital role of fisherfolk in maintaining the province’s food supply and the need for immediate support during times of calamity. Maynilad President Ramon S. Fernandez also stressed the urgency of providing relief to help the affected fisherfolk recover and rebuild.
This initiative is part of the broader corporate social responsibility efforts of MPT South, a subsidiary of Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, which manages several key expressways in the country, including NLEX, SCTEX, and CCLEX.
