PURSUANT to the guidance of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the House of Representatives (HRep) scaled down its Christmas tree lighting ceremony on Monday, marking the countdown to Christmas Day.
The simple program eschewed the celebratory fireworks that illuminated the sky above the House grounds in previous years, even as Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez, in his remarks during the HRep’s flag raising ceremony earlier that day, encouraged the HRep secretariat to remember and share their blessings with those affected by recent typhoons.
On behalf of the House leadership, especially Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez of Leyte, committee on accounts chairperson Rep. Yedda Romualdez of Tingog Partylist and House Secretary General Reginald Velasco welcomed everyone to the event.
“Alam ko lahat tayo magiging masaya although medyo ini-scale down natin ito. We will light the Christmas tree (to) signal that we are celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ,” Velasco said.
He joined House members to switch on the giant Christmas tree set up near the flag pole area, which was decorated with native “parols” from various parts of the country, symbolizing the sense of unity that the Marcos administration is championing.
