THE House of Representatives has yet to receive official copies of the petitions filed before the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte, according to House Secretary-General Reginald “Reggie” S. Velasco.
“We are aware of the two petitions before the Supreme Court questioning the validity and constitutionality of the impeachment complaint filed and transmitted to the Senate,” Velasco said.
However, he clarified that their awareness stems solely from media reports. “We learned about these petitions through various media outlets,” he stated.
“As we have not been formally furnished with copies, we must wait before responding to any inquiries on the matter,” he added.
Velasco reiterated that the House followed constitutional protocols throughout the impeachment process.
“The House of Representatives ensured full compliance with constitutional requirements when it filed the Articles of Impeachment and transmitted them to the Senate,” he affirmed.
On February 5, the House impeached VP Duterte on allegations including plotting to assassinate President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., large-scale corruption, and other charges. The Articles of Impeachment were then sent to the Senate for trial.
The Senate is set to convene as an impeachment court, with the trial expected to begin in the coming months.
