POLICE smashed an alleged vigilante group created to protect women and children from abuse and kill rapists and child offenders in Laguna following the arrest of one of the suspects.
Laguna Police Provincial Office director Col. Randy Glenn F. Silvio said arrested was a member of the group called “Alakdan Scorpion Righteous Kill Anti-Crime” or ASRAC.
The official said according to their investigation, the “Alakdan Group” was formed to protect all women and children against abuse and go after rapists and child oppressors.
The existence of the group was discovered following the killing on June 6 of a teenager accused of abusing his four sisters in Magdalena town.
The Laguna police director said that the victim of the gun attack turned out to be the subject of criminal charges for violation of Republic Act 8353 or the Anti-Rape Law and RA 7610 or the Anti-Child Abuse Law filed by the Magdalena police last May 4.
Police filed the charges against the accused for sexually abusing his four minor sisters whose names were withheld.
Last Tuesday, the teenager was driving his motorbike on his way to Nagcarlan when he was tailed by two motorcycle-riding suspects.
The back-rider of the motorcycle suddenly shot the teenager several times. The teenager lost control of his motorbike and crashed on the ground. He was rushed by some first-responders to the Nagcarlan District Hospital, where an attending physician declared him dead upon arrival.
After the incident, the local police conducted a backtracking on all available CCTV footages in the area in order to identify and arrest the killers.
The official said that a particular CCTV footage led to 30-year-old truck driver Lester Cortes as the driver of the getaway motorcycle. The suspect was arrested in his hiding place in Purok 2 in Bgy. Mojon, Liliw municipality.
During questioning, the accused positively identified his back-rider-turned gunman as Mark Kelly Callo, also a resident of Bgy. Mojon.
The suspect confessed that they were members of the ASRAC which was organized to become anti-crime volunteers in Liliw and other towns of Laguna in order to protect women and children against abuse and avoid rape cases.
Police are hunting down the other members of the alleged vigilante group.
