BUREAU of Immigration (BI) operatives on Monday morning arrested a Chinese woman found to be working illegally as a cashier.
The woman, identified only as ‘Chen’, 46, was found by BI intelligence division (ID) personnel in coordination with the Southern Police District Tactical Operation Center to be working in a Chinese grocery store along Quirino Avenue in Brgy. Tambo, Parañaque City.
BI records reveal that Chen possessed a valid working visa issued to the BI, but was petitioned by a different company.
“Foreign nationals with working visas are not allowed to work for any other company apart from the one that petitioned their visa,” said BI ID Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. “Working for another company is a violation of the conditions of their stay,” he added.
Chen was arrested after BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado issued a mission order instructing intelligence agents to arrest her after she has been monitored to be working in the said store.
Operatives conducted a test buy and bought various items and positively identified the subject who was manning the cash register.
She was immediately arrested and brought to the BI’s office in Intramuros for booking and medical examination. After inquest, she was transferred to the BI’s holding facility inside Camp Bagong Diwa where she shall stay until the resolution of her deportation case.
