THE day of triumph is near for Filipino Muslims, now that a bill ensuring the proper burial of Muslims in accordance with Islam is closer to becoming a law.
Sen. Robinhood “Robin” C. Padilla stressed this on Monday as he noted House Bill 8925 – a “sister bill” of his Senate Bill 1273 – now only awaits the signature of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to become law.
“Aking ikinagagalak na hinihintay na lang ng panukalang batas na ito ang lagda ng ating Pangulo. Kung maging batas ito, napakalaking bagay ito para sa ating mga kapatid na Muslim (I am very glad to know that the bill now awaits the President’s signature. Once it becomes law, it will mean a lot to our Muslim brethren),” said Padilla.
“Sa oras na maging batas ito, isa itong napakalaking tagumpay hindi lamang sa Kongreso kundi sa ating mga mahal na kapatid na Muslim na matagal nang hinihintay ito (Once this becomes law, it will be a triumph not only for Congress but to our beloved Muslim brethren who have waited so long for this),” he added.
House Bill 8925 moved closer to becoming a law after the House of Representatives agreed to the amendments put forth by senators.
On the other hand, Senate Bill 1273 provides for equal access to Filipino Muslims and indigenous peoples (IPs) in public cemeteries.
