The Department of Health – Ilocos Region led by Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco on Thursday, March 17, 2022 distributed a total of 17 assistive devices to persons with disability (PWDs) of Rosario, La Union.
“In view of our desire to uplift the social well-being of our PWDs in the region we are providing them these assistive devices that will enable them to be physically active and assist them in their daily activity at home and in the community,” Sydiongco stated in her message.
“Our PWDS must also be given the same opportunity as with a normal individual. They have the same rights and it is our duty as government agency to uphold them so that they may enjoy and benefit from it.”
“Kailangan natin silang gabayan at unawain ang kanilang pangangailangan at bigyan sila ng pagkakataon upang makapagtrabaho at maging kapakipakinabang na mamamayan. We need to encourage them to be productive, self-reliant and inspire them to become socially active,” she added.
Among the assistive devices that were given were four single tip canes, six crutches, four walkers and three quad canes.
The distribution ceremony were also attended by the municipal Mayor Bellarmin A. Flores II, PWD President Mr. Felix Baliclic, the Office of Senior Citizens Association President Perfecto Mr. Perfecto Hidalgo and staff.
According to the Philippine Statistic Authority 2010 Census, there are a total of 4,743 persons with disability in Ilocos region.
