Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos started distributing cash allowances to Nutrition Support Group (NSG) Members in the province of Pangasinan for use in the monitoring and implementation of nutrition programs at the community level to prevent malnutrition.
Among the first to receive were the 539 NSG members from the 77 barangays of Bayambang on May 21, 2025 and 262 NSG members from 31 barangays of Dagupan City on May 22, 2025.
Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco said that although the cash amount is trivial, NSGs sacrifices and hard work will always be looked upon with pride. “The regional office will find other ways to provide more support to NSGs, such as training, capacity-building, including provision of health and nutrition-related commodities” she assured.
“NSGs are vital in providing nutrition interventions and achieving our targets at the local level. They help ensure that target beneficiaries receive the services and benefits they need to prevent malnutrition and stunting, kasama na dito ang pangangalaga sa mga nanay at mga bata,” she emphasized.
Each NSG member received mobilization allowance. NSG members support delivering a cohesive package of nutrition-specific interventions to the community.
Also, during the payouts, Regional Nutritionist Dietitian Ms. Jovita Leny S. Calaguas led the turnover of Allen Sticks or height measurement board and weighing scales to further improve services to all barangays.
The activity is part of the Philippine Multisectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP), a nationwide initiative that aims to improve nutrition and health outcomes, particularly focusing on reducing stunting.
