DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region formally opened the new Barangay Health Station (BHS) with Birthing Facility for barangay Dan-Ar in Santiago, Ilocos Sur during a blessing and turnover ceremony held on March 4, 2025 at the barangay hall covered court.
“This BHS will serve as the first point of care for basic healthcare in the community. Kasama dito ang pagbibigay ng vaccinations, health education, family planning consultations, treatment ng minor illnesses, at referrals sa higher-level healthcare hospitals,” she stated.
“Ang mga primary care services ay ibibigay ng ating trained Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) at siyang mangangasiwa sa kalusugan ng mga residente sa barangay.”
The Dan-Ar BHS was funded through the General Appropriations Act (GAA) of 2024 with a budget of P2.5 million and was constructed through the DOH – Health Facility Enhancement Program (HFEP).
The 120 sq. mtr. lot in which the facility stands was donated by Mr. Jovencio P. Escalona, a bonafide resident of the barangay who aspires for better health and future for his townsfolk.
The regional office also provided a BHS package worth P500 thousand to complement the health services to be offered in the facility.
The facility was constructed through the effort of Deputy Speaker and Second District Representative Grace Kristine Singson-Meehan.
The blessing and turn-over ceremony was also attended by Santiago Mayor Michael S. Miranda, Brgy Captain Anicia B. Tongol, DOH, and local government officials.
