DEPARTMENT of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region was certified by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency – Region 1 (PDEA-RO1) for achieving a drug-free workplace during an awarding ceremony held at the conference room of the regional office on October 21, 2024.
The award was given by PDEA Regional Director Joel B. Plaza and received by Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco who expressed her gratitude to all employees for their support and commitment for achieving a drug free workplace and keeping themselves safe and healthy.
“Now that we are certified, we have to ensure that all our efforts will be sustained for us to be effective in providing efficient and quality service to our clients.”
“Let us continue to promote employee wellness and safety at work,” Sydiongco stated.
RA No. 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 promotes the establishment and institutionalization of drug–free workplace policies in all government agencies and ensures all public officers, both elective and appointive, remain drug-free through the conduct of authorized drug testing.
The Drug-Free Workplace Program includes advocacy, education, and training; a drug testing program for officials and employees; management, treatment, rehabilitation and referral; and monitoring and evaluation if indicated.
The regional office also inaugurated its wellness center for the utilization of its employees.
Regional Drug Control Program and Philippine Institute of Traditional and Alternative Health Care (PITAHC) Coordinator Helen A. Posilero said that the center offers services from physical fitness programs, nutritional guidance, mental health support, preventive care, or alternative therapies.
“We aim to lead our employees towards healthier and more fulfilling life free from illegal drug-use including stress, anxiety and depression.”
“We need to promote the physical, mental, and social well-being of everyone and make them more aware of healthy choices for healthier living,” she concluded.
