Winners of the infomercial and poster making contest conducted by DOH – Ilocos Region in provide awareness on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
TO strengthen advocacy and intensify awareness on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), Department of Health (DOH) – Ilocos Region conducted an infomercial and on-the-spot poster making contest in celebration of the Philippine Antimicrobial Awareness Week with the local theme, “Sama-Samang Magtulungan Upang Antimicrobial Resistance Ay Mapigilan”.
Regional Communicable Disease Prevention and Control Head, Rheuel C. Bobis said that the event provided a venue for students to have knowledge on the rational use of antibiotics, including the optimization of the treatment for infections, and in being stewards of rational and responsible use of antimicrobials to prevent further emergence and spread of Antimicrobial Resistance.
“Awareness is the still the single most effective cure against AMR,” Bobis emphasized.
The contest was conducted on November 21, 2024 at the regional office’s conference room and participated by various schools in the region including Virgen Milagrosa University Foundation (VMUF) in Pangasinan, Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU) in Ilocos Norte, Central Ilocandia College of Science and Technology CCST) in La Union,
Among the winners of the infomercial making contest were “Knightrobes” by MMSU for the first place, “Rxcellent Virginians” by VMUF and “Resistance PHighters” by VMUF for the third place.
For the on-the-spot poster making contest, first place winner is Danielle A. Punotilan of MMSU; 2nd – Jestine Aira N. Albarida of VMUF; and 3rd – Ezra Kyrzteen B. Magbitang of VMUF.
Tokens and cash prices were also given to winners.
The World Antimicrobial Awareness Week (WAAW) is observed and celebrated every third week of November worldwide to increase awareness of global Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) and to advocate best practices among the general public, health workers and policy makers in order to prevent the further emergence and spread of drug-resistant infections.
