San Fernando City, La Union – The Department of Health – Ilocos Region will be launching the “KaHEARTner Campaign” on February 20, 2023, with the theme “Move More! Eat Right!, at the Saint Louis Colleges Auditorium in celebration of heart month and to raise awareness and encourage public support for the advocacy of promoting cardiovascular health and wellness.
“This campaign will be piloted in the province of La Union, to promote fitness and healthy diet including literature on the importance of physical activity in preventing heart disease,” Regional Director Paula Paz M. Sydiongco stated.
“People should pair healthy eating with exercise and aim for at least 20 minutes of moderate to intense physical activity per week. Kailangan nating igalaw-galaw ang ating katawan dahil ang ating puso ay isang muscle na nangangailangan ng regular na ehersisyo upang maging malusog at malayo sa anumang sakit.”
The KaHEARTner will also campaign will feature a dance contest which is open to all students of high school and college within the province of La Union.
For the mechanics of the contest, a group of 7-15 members, either male or female or both may join; duration of the dance must be from 5-7 minutes; the dance composition must emphasize the theme of the event; vulgarity, obscenity and explicit movements are not allowed; props and other materials needed for visuals can be used; and dance music must not contain inappropriate or offensive content.
Criteria for judging will be based on the following choreography – 25%, originality and creativity – 25%, audience impact – 20%, and relevance and emphasis – 30%.
Registration for the dance contest will start on February 14, 2023 .

Prizes for the winner includes ₱15,000 for the first price; ₱10,000 for the second prize; ₱8,000 – third prize; and ₱5,000 for the consolacion prize.

The Philippine Heart Month is celebrated every February since 1973 by virtue of Proclamation No. 1096 signed on Jan. 9, 1973 which seeks to promote awareness of heart disease as a serious and growing health concern among Filipinos.
