POLICE on Monday night arrested a man driving a van and transporting suspected fake cigarettes and seized his illegal cargo worth around P900,000 during checkpoint operations in Zaragosa, Nueva Ecija.
Town police head Maj. Ronnie Caagbay said arrested was John Bejay Agujar, 26, driver, of Bgy. Malis, Guiguinto, Bulacan.
Agujar was driving a white Toyota Commuter van when flagged down in Bgy. Sto. Rosario Young at 11:50 p.m. on Monday.
Checkpoint operatives led by MSgt. Crisencio Evangelista Jr. and SSgt. Nicolas Guhiting and the 1st Provincial Mobile Force Company arrested the suspect while in possession of 62 boxes of suspected illegally-manufactured cigarettes, with brand names such as Two Moon, Modern, and D & B.
Police said the seized fake cigarettes worth P868,000 came from Quezon City.
