A HAND grenade on Wednesday was found outside the house of a mayoral candidate in Buluan, Maguindanao.
Police said an M-61 fragmentation grenade was discovered at the back gate of the house of Buluan mayoral candidate Jessieden Ali Martirez on Rose Street in Bgy. Poblacion around 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Martirez is running under the UniTeam political party.
A report from the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office said members of the Tacurong City-based Army’s 33rd Explosives and Ordnance Disposal Team led by Staff Sgt. Junar Salvedia were called to retrieve the explosive.
The grenade was wrapped in a brown towel without safety pin. Prior to the discovery of the grenade, the Buluan Municipal Police Station received a text message from a concerned citizen informing them that a suspected bomb was found outside the Martirez’ residence.
Policemen led by Lt. Cemafranco Cemacio rushed to the scene and sought the Army EODT’s assistance after they found the explosive.
An investigation is ongoing on who left the grenade in the area.
