THE Land Transportation Office (LTO), in coordination with the local government unit of Marikina City, distributed on Friday, February 7, a total of 1,223 pieces of yellow plates to tricycle drivers.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the distribution of the motorcycle plates also marked the end of the backlog of license plates for registered tricycles in Marikina City.
“We are inching closer towards addressing the backlog of license plates for motorcycles and we attribute this to the all-out support of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. in order to finally resolve this problem which started way back in 2014,” said Asec Mendoza.
Marikina City Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro and Marikina 1st District Rep. Marjorie Ann Teodoro led the distribution of the license plates along with the officials of the LTO and the LGU.
Mayor Teodoro expressed gratitude to the Asec Mendoza for honoring the LTO commitment in addressing the backlog of license plates for tricycles.
Last year, President Marcos met with DOTr Secretary Jaime J. Bautista and Asec Mendoza and discussed all the challenges of the LTO, particularly on the license plates.
The LTO, under the leadership of Asec Mendoza, already addressed the backlog of license plates for four-wheel vehicles since the agency started producing more than 800,000 license plates late in 2023, or just a few months since Asec Mendoza assumed the top LTO post.
Asec Mendoza expressed confidence that distribution of the remaining yellow license plates for tricycles will help the tricycle operators and driver’s associations (TODAs) in Marikina City in addressing colorum tricycles similar to what happened in Quezon City.
Last year, TODA officials and members in Quezon City expressed confidence to Asec Mendoza as their earnings significantly increased after colorum tricycles in their areas were wiped out after the completion of the distribution of license plates for tricycles.
