THE Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned a motorcycle rider who did a dangerous “Superman stunt” while driving along the Marilaque Road in Tanay, Rizal early this week, a video of it went viral after his fellow rider died after they both figured in an accident.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said the Show Cause Order (SCO) was already sent to the rider in his residence in Lipa City in Batangas and was mandated to submit a written explanation as to why he should not be punished for reckless driving.
“I personally saw the video and although it was really tragic, that could have not happened if they just chose to be responsible motorcycle riders,” said Asec Mendoza.
“But there will be a hearing on this case as part of the due process and I expect the rider to explain well since what is at stake here is the privilege given to him by the government to ride a motorcycle,” he added.
Asec Mendoza said the fact that the stunt was done along a public road and even inflicted injuries to at least six other road users already showed glaring violations of the traffic rules and regulations.
In the SCO signed by LTO-CALABARZON Regional Director Elmer Decena, the rider, who was also reported as a motovlogger, was identified as one of the two riders who “recklessly or without reasonable caution and regard for the safety of others performed unsafe maneuvers.”
“In view hereof, you are hereby directed appear and/or submit your response under oath within five (5) days from receipt hereof, attaching thereto all pertinent documents to rebut all the aforesaid allegation, to show cause as to why you should not be administratively charged for Reckless Driving and/or why your license should not be suspended or revoked for being an improper person to operate a motor vehicle,” the SCO read.
It said that failure of the rider to submit an explanation shall be deemed as a waiver which would give authority to the LTO to use the available pieces of evidence to decide on his case
