CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – A dispirited terrorist NPA who wants to leave the armed group yielded to the government forces in Labo, Camarines Norte, Friday, November 29.
According to reports from the 201st Infantry Brigade, troops were conducting routine security operations at Barangay Dumagmang when they received information from a concerned citizen regarding the presence of an armed group near his residence.
The concerned citizen was later identified as Emmmanuel Balotan alias Popoy who admitted that he is one of the remnants of the dismantled terrorist group who wishes to surrender.
It was further revealed that information from Balotan led to the recent encounter between the troops and the NPA last November 30.
In a statement, the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Cerilo Balaoro Jr. commended the courage of the former rebel for deciding to return to the folds of the law and assist government forces in their campaign for peace.
“This surrender is a testament to the growing disillusionment within the ranks of the Communist terrorist group,” said Maj. Gen. Balaoro.
He also said that more and more of their members are realizing the futility of armed struggle and are choosing to embrace peace and reconciliation.
He further emphasized the importance of the community’s role in the government’s peace efforts.
“We are grateful to the concerned citizens who continue to stand against violence and work towards peace in their communities,” adds Maj. Gen. Balaoro.
“Your support greatly strengthens our resolve to achieve lasting stability in the region,” Maj. Gen. Balaoro concluded.
The surrendering NPA member will undergo debriefing and processing under the Enhanced Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), which provides assistance and reintegration support to former rebels
