AKO-OFW or Advocates and Keepers Organization of OFWS (overseas Filipino workers) Party-list expressed optimism it would win in the coming 2022 elections.
The group, number 10 in the ballot, aims to champion the interests of the Filipino migrant workers and bat for OFW-oriented legislation and policies. Its legislative agenda includes: the establishment of an OFW Hospital, OFW pension plan, OFW village, OFW advisory council in every barangay in the country, and livelihood programs for families of OFWs. AKO-OFW Chairman and first nominee Dr. Chie Umandap said they are warmly received by the people and the different sectors and organizations as well as local leaders in all the places of the country that they have visited to discuss their advocacies.
“We are very thankful to everybody who have been expressing support for our candidacy,” he said. Dr. Umandap particularly noted the results of the latest pre-election survey of Pulse Asia which showed AKO-OFW as included in the top 40 from among the more than 177 party-list groups in the May 2022 elections vying for the twenty percent of the seats in the House of Representatives reserved for party-list representatives.
AKO-OFW obtained a 0.6 percent voter preference in this survey of Pulse Asia which asked: “Kung ang darating na eleksyon sa Mayo 2022 ay gaganapin ngayon, aling partido o grupong PARTY-LIST ang inyong iboboto? Pumili lamang po ng isa.”
The nationwide Pulse Asia survey, conducted from January 19 to 24, 2022, had 2,400 respondents aged 18 and above, with a ± 2% error margin at the 95% confidence level. Up to 62 percent of the respondents, the survey also found, were aware of the party-list system while 38 percent say otherwise.
Dr. Umandap said, “Our getting included in the top 20 is very encouraging, though we still need to exert all the efforts we can give to be able to secure the needed votes and make it to the winning circle. But, as our second nominee Mr. Coco Naik remarked, ‘Sulit ang pagod! It’s really worth the efforts!’ (30)
