PRESIDENT Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Monday assured the government will exhaust all means possible to allow every Filipino to experience a “merry Christmas” this year amid the global challenges and adversities affecting the country.
The President made this promise while leading a gift-giving event for residents of Marillac Hills and Haven for Women in Muntinlupa City.
In his speech, President Marcos wants Filipinos, especially children affected by recent typhoons and other disasters, to feel the true spirit of Christmas.
“Kahit na tinamaan tayo ng kung anu-anong bagyo, kahit na nasunugan ang mga iba’t ibang lugar, kahit papaano tiyakin natin [na] tayong lahat, lahat ng Pilipino, lalo na itong mga maliliit, itong mga bata, ay makaramdam ng Pasko,” President Marcos said.
“Basta kami sa pamahalaan titiyakin namin lahat ng Pilipino ay may merry Christmas ngayong 2024,” he added.
The President also encouraged residents to take time to rest and enjoy the Christmas season with their loved ones and friends.
He distributed gifts and assistance to victims of sexual abuse and exploitation at the Marillac Hills and Haven for Women.
To provide comfort and support, the President handed over 20 sacks of 50- kilo rice to Marillac Hills and 10 sacks for the Haven for Women. He also extended food packs, medicines, vitamins, toiletries and infant supplies.
In return, the residents performed a heartfelt “Thank you” song to express their admiration and gratitude for the President’s compassion and leadership.
Under President Marcos’ leadership, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has served 1,837 children in need of special protection from trafficking, physical and sexual abuse, rape, and neglect or abandonment through its service centers and residential care facilities.
The DSWD’s community-based initiatives also supported 3,616 children in need of special protection.
It also provided assistance –medical, financial, transportation, livelihood, legal and psychosocial support– to 939 victims of violence against women.
