CAMP CAPINPIN, Rizal – Combined troops of the 2nd Infantry (Jungle Fighter) Division (2ID) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) recovered two separate arms caches in General Nakar, Quezon, Thursday, December 19, and in Labo, Camarines Norte, Friday, December 20.
According to reports from the 202nd Infantry Brigade, the information given to the soldiers of the 80th Infantry Battalion by an undisclosed tipster led police to conduct operations at Barangay Pagsangahan on Thursday where they discovered an arms cache hidden by the NPA terrorists.
The cache contains two rifle barrels, four improvised firing devices, 32 rounds of live ammunition, four shotgun shells, a sling bag, and assorted wires.
Meanwhile, the 201st Infantry Brigade reported that troops of the 16th Infantry Battalion together with the police acted on information from a former rebel regarding the location of an NPA arms cache in Labo town’s Barangay Malibago in the province of Camarines Norte.
The operation led to the recovery of 2, 307 rounds of live ammunition for various firearms, three rolls of detonating cords, 86 blasting caps, a roll of electrical wire, and three plastic drums.
In a statement, 2ID Commander Major General Cerilo Balaoro Jr. emphasized that the discoveries mark another blow to the NPA’s capabilities in the said provinces.
“The recovery of this arms cache further weakens the operational capacity of the terrorist NPA and disrupts their plans to conduct violent activities,” says Major General Balaoro.
“This development is a step forward in our mission to eradicate the remaining terrorists and finally bring lasting peace to Quezon Province and the entire Southern Tagalog region,” adds Major General Balaoro.
The 2ID, in partnership with other government and non-government agencies, will continue to intensify its security efforts against the remaining insurgents in the area, not just to totally defeat the members of the armed groups but also to promote the government’s reconciliation programs to encourage them to return to the fold of the law and reintegrate into society.
