
AN 18-year-old student died after allegedly undergoing initiation rites by the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity in Kalayaan, Laguna on Sunday.
Kalayaan police OIC chief Lt. Erico Bestid Jr. identified the victim as Reymarc Rabutazo, of Bgy. Longos, Kalayaan, Laguna.
Rabutazo was declared dead on arrival at the General Cailles Hospital in Pakil, Laguna.
Based on an initial report, a young man allegedly died from drowning in a river in the mountainous part of Twin Falls in Bgy. San Juan, Kalayaan town.
Personnel of the Kalayaan Municipal Police Station immediately responded to the area.
Authorities later on found out that it was not a case of drowning but of hazing.
Elizabeth, the victim’s grandmother, suspected that his grandson died of hazing. She sought the help of the police.
The Kalayaan Municipal Police Station requested that the victim’s body be autopsied to determine the cause of the victim’s death.
Meanwhile, members and officials of the Tau Gamma Phi Fraternity in Kalayaan said they will cooperate in the ongoing investigation.
